In the early years of the “Roaring 20’s” America’s money was also going through changes. The last Morgan Silver Dollar was made in 1921 … the Peace Silver Dollar took its place as America’s Dollar coin … and the last large size Dollar bill was issued in 1923. This collection includes all three of these “old” and “new” Dollars from the 1920’s. The Peace Silver Dollar was first made in 1921, but in very small quantities. The first full year of mintage was 1922, and it continued to be made through the 1920’s and until 1935 when the last coin was struck. It was originally issued as a celebration of world peace after World War I. Both Silver Dollars were struck by the U.S. Mint in .900 pure silver and are about 1 ˝” in diameter. They are very large coins that had considerable spending power in the 1920’s. Millions of Silver Dollars have been melted through the years for their precious silver bullion, leaving few for collectors.
