Celebrating the 1944 Invasion of Europe

D-Day was one of the greatest achievements of World War II. Planned by General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Allied invasion of Europe took place on June 6, 1944, and marked the turning point of the war. On the 60th anniversary of D-Day – June 6, 2004 – paratroopers reenacted the D-Day landing in front of five heads of state … and each paratrooper carried one of these 60th anniversary coins in his pocket! Only 10,000 Silver Proof coins were struck, and many were used in the reenactment.
