Potentially the most popular note to own amongst collectors is the Series 1901 $10 “Buffalo” note, or “Buffalo bill”. The note honors explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark for their expedition to travel the land bought through the Louisiana Purchase. The Buffalo was chosen because of the vast numbers that roamed the prairies in 1804-1806. These notes have become extremely popular and often serve as the cornerstone to any collection.
